In a public poll from 20 shortlisted streets undertaken over the past month by the Urban Design Association (UDA), Lackey Street finished ahead of second placed King Street, Newtown and third placed Majors Bay Road, Concord.

Professional urban designer, UDA member and long-time resident Russell Olsson said: “Lackey Street has a strong sense of place, with the square in the centre and the street being visually enclosed by Smith Street shops at one end and the train station at the other. Street trees, kerbside planting and painted murals show community pride in a well-loved place.”

Three out of six finalists were Inner West Council high streets.

Finalist list results:
1. Lackey Street, Summer Hill        15.5%
2. King Street, Newtown                    12.9%
3. Majors Bay Road, Concord           12.7%
4. Crown Street, Surry Hills               11.3%
5. Darling Street, Rozelle             7.8%
6. Marrickville Road, Marrickville   7.2%
